Dr. Ximena Franco-Jenkins presented at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Meeting held September 25-28 in Chicago, Illinois.

This year's theme, The Math of Their Dreams: Illuminating Students’ Brilliance, captures NCTM's intent to center students and their experiences while being evocative—what does “the math of their dreams” bring to mind for you? Students have a wide range of experiences that inform how they think, see, and express themselves. They each come to classrooms with a unique brilliance. NCTM hopes that the nature of that brilliance is illuminated for all to see in a way that allows educators to foster in students the joy in learning powerful ways mathematics connects to and emerges from their natural brilliance, and for them, in a way that ensures they never lose sight of how amazing they are.
