This study conducted a content validity analysis of the Teacher Impression Scale (TIS), an observer rating scale developed in the 1980s to assess preschool children’s peer social competence. This was the initial step in revising the TIS for teacher use in preschool classrooms. Participants from five constituency groups—child development scientists, early childhood equity leaders, practitioners, and both English- and Spanish-speaking family members—provided feedback through the Content Validity Index and focus group discussions. Their input guided revisions to the scale, emphasizing the need for such a tool in early childhood programs, and set the stage for further psychometric testing.
