Associations between school characteristics and learning gains for pre-K attenders and non-attenders: Important constructs, limited evidence
This study analyzed data from the Early Learning Network and other educational sources to explore how elementary school characteristics impact children’s academic growth in math, language, and literacy from kindergarten to first grade. The findings revealed that factors like school performance, absenteeism, teacher experience, expenditures, and student-teacher ratios were generally not linked to significant changes in academic learning. Additionally, while pre-K attendees started kindergarten with stronger academic skills, there was little evidence to suggest that school characteristics had a different impact on their learning compared to non-attenders.
