Portfolio Updates: North Carolina Early Learning Challenge Transformation Zone

NIRN is working with the Office of the North Carolina Governor to develop implementation capacity at the state and local levels to support of the full and effective uses of evidence-based interventions and other innovations to benefit young children and families in a four county Transformation Zone in eastern North Carolina, and ultimately to inform statewide scale-up. The initiative is tied into North Carolina's Race to the Top grant.

Race to the Top - Early Learning Challenge Grant

The Early Learning Challenge Grant is a federally funded initiative from the U.S. Dept. of Education and U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. The purpose of this initiative is to improve the quality of early learning and development and close the achievement gap for children with high needs. North Carolina submitted a successful application for a $69,991,121 grant that includes a number of projects designed to improve learning and development for young children. The award period is January 2012 – December 2015.
